Hi readers!
Welcome to the incremental compound progression of my artistic endeavours!
Had some feedback that my last post was a bit on the long side so I’m going to try splitting it up. If being harassed by me bi-monthly is too much for you, I want to know.
Thanks to the people who let me know their thoughts on “Art Supply of the Month” as well! That will be in the next one.
THE DILDO: TAKING THE PLUNGE
I’m currently making a comic that I aim to get printed. The story so far…
I started drawing with Bristol Board for this page. It’s thick like card and incredibly smooth. It’s also rather pricey, but guess what? I still have a pad that I bought in 2006 before my self imposed decade long exile from drawing, so I’m quids in!
I draw in blue because 1) you can knock the colour out in photoshop without having to use a rubber. 2. it’s a good way to separate the rough lines from the more final pencils.
I also took the time to plan out all the grey tones in marker beforehand, which saved me a bit of faffing later on.
TIME
Where does it go eh? Someone told me the other day that it’s been 11 years since I directed this music video for Tellison.
Props to my pal Alex Oliver who shot this and Alex White of We Three Club who glued on Andy’s beard. Thanks to Ned’s parents for letting us film in their house (it wouldn’t be the last time either) and Christina for being the receptionist. Here’s some storyboards I drew before the shoot.
SIMON’S NEW ALBUM
I have to take a moment to shout about my pal Simon Panrucker’s NEW ALBUM “I’ve Got Something To Say.”
Listen to it on Bandcamp or your preferred streaming service!
If I can only give one reason to listen to this album it would be for the Cypress Hill nod in a song about Crocs.
I feel very fortunate to have friends who keep making stuff, just because they gotta. Sometimes we get bogged down in thinking about how we can make stuff for money, or to be successful (I SURE DO!). But I think you should make stuff first and foremost because you want to. This video perfectly illustrates the struggle I face daily.
I think that’s a good place to finish don’t you? Pull your socks up and make something cool because you want to.
Look after yourselves.
Carl
P.S hit me up on Instagram, if you’re about. Cheers. Ta ta!
